Healthy indulgence on vacation. It's totally doable
If you've been hardcore committed to a healthy lifestyle all year, you want to indulge to the max on vacation. But, you don't want to throw away all the efforts you've put in. No worries, it's totally possible to feel fit and healthy while enjoying your vacation. How? We'll get you started with these tips.
1. Balance
Write it on the mirror in your cottage, make it your mantra, because balance is key. Vacation is the time to have your feet in the sand, not stressing over burpee challenges. Go wild now and then, recharge, and promise yourself to get back in the game after your mental and physical reset. The longer you delay getting back to your lifestyle routine after returning, the harder it is to get back on track.
2. Drink smarter
Save alcoholic drinks and other heavy hitters for the evening. Here are some manageable options:
- Champagne - 75 calories per glass. Hello fancy club night.
- Rum - 80 calories per glass
- Vodka - 85 calories per glass, pair it up with soda water or other light soft drinks.
And try to skip these more often:
- Red and white wine - 155 calories per glass (sorry)
- Beer - 110 calories per glass
- Creamy liqueurs - 110 calories per glass
3. Eat less during the day
Drink plenty of water and have light meals in the morning and afternoon, including some fruit, lots of veggies, and/or a salad. You can also grab a protein shake or meal replacement shake in between. This way, you save calories and can eat what you fancy later in the day.
4. Keep moving
Gym or no gym: kick off the day with a workout. Why again?
-
You burn a good bunch of calories, letting you eat more throughout the day.
-
It clears your mind, making you chill better at the beach or enjoy that excursion.
- You shed those extra vacation pounds before they even cling on.
- Vacation makes you lazy, which is nice, but it might drain your energy. Regular workouts keep your energy levels on point.
- Staying active makes it a routine, and you'll effortlessly resume it back home.
5. Plan ahead
Check out the restaurant's menu beforehand. Deciding in advance what you'll eat reduces the chances of impulsive indulgences. Also, think ahead if you're going all-in with drinks and courses.
6. Pay attention to the order
Kick off your meals with veggies and proteins before going for fries. Or have soup first and then opt for higher-volume foods (vegetables, fruit, potatoes, and legumes). This way, you'll feel full faster and be less tempted to overeat.
Tip: It's better to eat more of the same thing than a little bit of everything. The more variety of products and flavors you have in a meal, the more you'll feel the urge to keep eating.
