How to get more energy? Try these 8 tips!
After a regular day of work, you collapse onto the couch. You are completely exhausted. This feeling of fatigue has been happening to you more and more lately. Where does it come from? And how can you get more energy? In this article, we share eight tips for more energy.
Why you have less energy
You've had a busy day, slept poorly, or eaten too little. Sometimes you just have little energy. The cause and solution are usually easy to find. But when you feel like you have consistently less energy, unfortunately the cause is often less obvious.
A general feeling of fatigue is mainly caused by lack of exercise and/or mental problems (1), but things like healthy food, enough water, and sunlight can also play a role.
Tips for more energy

1. More exercise and movement
Research shows that fatigue is the number one reason why people do not exercise and move enough (2). Ironically, the solution to fatigue is often found in more exercise (3, 4).
Regular exercise burns more energy in your cells and oxygen is transported throughout the body. Exercise also lowers levels of stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol, giving you more energy and helping you sleep better (5).
2. Reduce stress
A little stress is good. It keeps us sharp and provides a healthy challenge. However, too much stress, caused by work or personal circumstances, can be the cause of less energy (6). If you're (too) busy at work or at home for a long time, it's time to take it easy.
3. Cut back on or quit caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol
Everyone knows that smoking is bad for your health. But did you know that nicotine makes it harder for you to sleep (7)? And that has an effect on your energy.
And while coffee can give you a temporary feeling of more energy (8), the negative impact on your sleep means that in the long run you actually have less energy (9).
Reducing alcohol consumption is also a good idea to get more energy. This way you sleep better and your liver doesn't have to spend energy breaking it down.
4. Better sleep
With the above tips, we have already mentioned some ways to improve your sleep. But why is good sleep so important?
Sleep allows us to recover from the efforts of the past day and build up reserves for the next day. If you sleep poorly, you don't rest well and you notice that in your energy.
5. Better nutrition
Unhealthy food doesn't contain many nutrients that give you energy. To get more energy, you should therefore eat plenty of vegetables and fruit. You can also use a green juice supplement. This is an easy way to get more vegetables and fruit into your daily diet.
6. Drink water
A healthy adult body consists of about 55 to 60% water. So water is super important for us! If our body has too little water, you will immediately notice it in your energy level.

7. Get enough sunlight
Sunlight equals energy. Through solar panels, we can even convert the energy of the sun into electricity. But the sun is also an important source of energy for people.
When we don't see enough sunlight, it has a negative impact on our energy (16). The sun provides us with vitamin D. A deficiency manifests itself in feelings of lethargy and fatigue. So enjoy the sun!
