10 healthy snacks for during weight loss
Losing weight is really all about one thing: consuming fewer calories than you burn. You can do this by exercising more or eating healthier, or even better, doing both! And those annoying cravings between meals? You can satisfy them with delicious and healthy snacks!
What are healthy snacks?
Unhealthy foods contain lots of sugars, saturated fats, and calories, but few fibers, minerals, and vitamins. They usually taste great but aren't really healthy. Healthy snacks are the opposite: they contain lots of good nutrients and few "fattening" ingredients.

Basis of a healthy snack
Vegetables, fruits, nuts, and grains form the basis of most healthy snacks. We use them in almost all of our own recipes. But these products are already a healthy snack on their own. Eating a kiwi or a carrot, for example, is very healthy!
Vegetables
Eating vegetables is healthy. They are packed with healthy vitamins and minerals and contain few calories. Different vegetables contain different nutrients, which is why it's especially important to eat a variety of them.
For example, you could make a tasty snack box with:
- Carrots
- Cucumber
- Cherry tomatoes
- Strips of bell pepper
Tip: Want to make your snack vegetables a little more exciting? Dip them in hummus, pepper spread, or guacamole!
Fruit
The same applies to fruit, but you should be aware that some types of fruit are quite high in calories. For example, bananas, grapes, and pineapples contain many more calories than mandarins, apricots, or kiwis. However, they do keep you feeling full for longer.
Nuts
Nuts are healthy when unsalted, whether they are raw, roasted or toasted. However, they do contain a lot of calories: a handful of nuts (25 grams) contains about 160 calories. Therefore, it is not recommended to eat nuts as a snack until you are full, but rather to alternate with vegetables and fruit.
Grains
Whole grains contain many beneficial substances, including vitamins B1, B2, and B3, as well as minerals such as iron, calcium, and phosphorus. A healthy snack for in-between meals is, for example, a corn cake or whole grain rice cake. Or consider oats, oatmeal, and granola, especially tasty as part of a baked good.
